A health coach is an empathetic and creative partner in your health and wellness journey. They listen, collaborate, support and honor you as the expert in your own life and health. They respect your autonomy and partner with you to develop and implement a personal health and wellness vision. Realizing that everyone’s ingredients are different, a health coach cultivates your internal motivation and confidence needed to begin and sustain healthy lifestyle changes all while providing gentle accountability and support.
Ultimately, the power of change is in your hands. You are an active participant in this journey. It’s a commitment to do the work that is needed to achieve your goals, and it is the health coach’s job to guide and support you along the way. If you stick with the work, you should learn a lot about yourself and what works for you.
This varies from person to person. You should have many “ah-ha” moments along the way, with the ultimate goal being that you discover what nourishes you both physically and emotionally, allowing you to begin and then sustain healthy lifestyle changes that improve your overall health and wellbeing. Everyone is different and finding those personal ingredients and practical day to day healthy lifestyle habits that fit is key to long term success.
No. There is a lot of information in your chart that the health coach can refer to. The health coach will collaborate with Dr. Mercuro and review her recommendations for you. We can discuss and create your goals as they pertain to her recommendations and create other goals too! Most of the discovery about you will be during our initial visit.
Plan for 60-75 minutes. This visit is where we become acquainted, and we learn more about you. It’s a creative process of pulling together all that you hope to accomplish, your motivation, and recognizing what nourishes your mind, body, and soul. We collaborate to create your very own personalized health and wellness vision and the first steps to create an action plan; a vision board but in written form.
Plan for 30-40 minutes. We will meet weekly for four or so visits depending upon your needs, then biweekly for about 3 months. These are visits where we review goals, discuss what went well and what may need adjusting. These visits are full of discovery and “ah-ha” moments — goal setting and action planning to create your practical steps that bring you closer to your health and wellness vision.
The typical duration of health coaching is around three to six months, but this varies from person to person. Everyone is at a different place in their journey — some are ready to dive right in, some it may take a bit longer to discover what they need or want before beginning.
At Sparkle Health, our health coach is a nurse certified in lifestyle medicine and has many resources to share. However, education and advice are never unsolicited and is provided only as requested by you. If you would like to discuss or learn more about improving your sleep, developing strategies to manage stress, avoiding risky substances, maintaining strong social connections, healthful eating, or increasing your physical activity, you may ask for information at any time. The health coach will provide you with handouts and resources, or we can brainstorm together about what ingredients may be right for you and your journey.
Sometimes we are not ready to start the journey and that’s okay! If you need more time to contemplate, there is no commitment to continue.
