Massage Therapy

What is Massage Therapy?

massage therapy

Massage therapy is the scientific manipulation of the body for the purpose of normalizing those tissues and consists of manual techniques that include applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, and/or causing movement of or to the body. In general, massage is a term for pressing, rubbing, and manipulating your skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Massage may range from light stroking to deep pressure.

Customizing for the unique individual

The best part of a massage appointment at Sparkle Health is being able to customize each massage to the client’s needs. Not everyone needs, or wants, the same massage. Part of our time together will be discussing what your expected goal for our session will be and developing a treatment plan together to achieve your goal.

Specific Benefits

According to the Mayo Clinic, massage is considered part of complementary and integrative medicine. It is increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain, and muscle tension.

While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for:

-Anxiety

-Digestive disorders

-Fibromyalgia

-Headaches

-Insomnia related to stress

-Myofascial pain syndrome

-Soft tissue strains or injuries

-Sports injuries

-Temporomandibular joint pain

Beyond the benefits of specific conditions or diseases, many people enjoy massage because it often produces feelings of caring, comfort and connection. Despite its benefits, massage is not meant as a replacement for regular medical care.

In addition to traditional Massage Therapy, Sparkle Health also offers Lymphatic Drainage and massage to support your Nervous system.

What To Expect
Gina Toce, LMT, NH#7888, Reiki Master, Certified IET® Master Instructor, is our Massage Therapist at Sparkle Health.

Your comfort is our first priority. Overhead lights will be dimmed during your treatment with Salt lamps used to provide a soft, calming light.  You also have the choice to enhance your massage with aromatherapy lotions/oils and to have essential oils diffused in the room.  Spa music is typically played to enhance your experience.  If you have a music preference, that can be played in place of our usual spa music.

Enjoy this warm, inviting atmosphere that begins your relaxation treatment. Undress in a private room and lie under a sheet and blanket on a massage table.  The table can be heated, if desired.  During your treatment, different areas of the body are uncovered, but you’ll never be left feeling exposed or chilly. It’s important that you feel comfortable.  If that means you keep some or all of your clothing on for your treatment, that is ok.  Clothing can be worked through. You may be interested in starting with a Chair Massage (a chair that allows you to lean forward, exposing your back) where you stay fully clothed.
