Successful Elderberry Class

Highlights from our fun and informative Elderberry Class

Thank you to all who attended our first (socially distanced) in-person class in quite awhile.

Gina enjoyed demonstrating her Elderberry Syrup recipe step-by-step. Everyone tasted two different recipes to learn the subtle differences in flavors depending on the cook and their unique approach. Both were delicious ~ but our attendees had a clear favorite ~ Gina’s! Not just because she was our teacher, but because hers had a nice, round, warm, sweetness, and a slightly thicker consistency. Gina’s approach to teaching is to-the-point and down-to-earth, with a sprinkle of humor ~ we laughed!

“I found so much joy just being together!” ~ Dr. Mercuro

Dr. Elisa Mercuro’s presentation was on point! We learned all of the ins-and-outs of why Elderberry can be so good for keeping us well. How it helps our bodies immune system, it’s potential as an antidepressant, anti-Diabetic properties, and why it must be carefully prepared, along with what happens if it’s not . . . active ingredient cyanide! But when properly prepared and fully cooked it can be a real game changer. Opening up the possibility of a cold/flu free winter and it’s delicious! Use as a topping for yogurt, granola, tea, smoothies, warm oatmeal, meats, soft cheese spreads, or straight up . . . Gina does a shot a day in the winter months!

When this event comes around again I highly recommend join us!

Shining The Light On Local Honey

Chisholm Farm ~ An extra sweet place to visit!

We were excited to use local honey in our Elderberry recipe!
Chisholm Farm in Hampstead NH has been producing Maple Syrup and Honey for over 38 years. They grew up making sweet syrup and natural honey. As they got better at the production process, they started developing their infused natural honey and barrel-aged maple syrup. They are growing to become a major maple syrup producer in the Hampstead, NH area.

Their honey comes straight from the hive! It is a unique experience trying this special honey. They care for and keep the bees that make the honey, so it’s an extra sweet satisfaction to taste the finished product. You can walk in and purchase items or visit their website at ChisholmFarm.com to order items today.

Hey Honey, Need a Boost?

Need a little energy boost to get you through? Honey can help! Honey is a natural source of energy and ideal for working muscles. Honey provides 17 grams at just 64 calories per tablespoon. Combining honey with fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, and other healthful foods can add to your total nutrition and give you a great natural energy boost.

Honey is a natural source of carbohydrates, which makes it ideal for your working muscles since carbs are the primary fuel the body uses for energy. Carbohydrates are necessary in the diet to help maintain muscle glycogen (stored carbohydrates) which are the most important fuel source for athletes to help them keep going.

Can Honey be an athletic aid? We think so!

Try these tips to fuel your diet with the sweet goodness of honey!

Pre-exercise: Sports nutritionists recommend eating carbohydrates before an athletic activity for an added energy boost. As with many carbs, pure honey may be an effective form to ingest just prior to exercise. When honey is eaten before a workout, it is released into the system at a steady rate throughout the activity. A spoon full of honey helps!

During-exercise: Consuming carbohydrates during a workout helps your muscles stay nourished longer and delays fatigue. Next time you reach for a bottle of water, add a touch of honey ~ it can give you a much-needed athletic boost!

Post-exercise: An optimal recovery plan is essential for all athletes. Research shows that ingesting a combo of carbohydrates and protein immediately following exercise (within 30 minutes) is ideal to refuel and help decrease delayed-onset muscle soreness. Again, honey is a great source of carbohydrates to combine with post-workout protein supplements. In addition to promoting muscle recuperation and glycogen restoration, carb-protein combos sustain good blood sugar concentrations after training.

Whether you’re looking for an energy boost or just a sweet reward after a long workout, honey is a quick, easy, and delicious, all-natural energy source! Check out our featured Chisholm Farm nearby for local honey!

Date: Wednesday, February 9, 2022
Time: 6:30-7:30PM
Location: Online Only

We will discuss what you can do to prevent and treat osteoporosis and osteopenia.

About this event
Bone is a specialized form of connective tissue that is dynamic and always changing just like ALL our tissue. Osteoblasts form new bone and osteoclasts break up bone. When all is right and in balance, those cells are working equally. Unfortunately, there are factors that tip the balance and allow for increased osteoclastic activity which dissolves or breaks up bone.

Join me in a discussion regarding the health our skeletons and the factors that contribute to osteopenia and osteoporosis. We will discuss what YOU can do to prevent and treat these problems as we age.
