Bringing Joy & Awe!

Gratitude, and its associated humility, can lead to a more positive emotional state and subjective well-being. A series of studies have shown some very positive effects brought on by the feeling of being in awe. People who frequently felt feelings of being in awe and overall gratefulness, reported feeling like they had more time, more preference for experiential expenditures than material expenditures, and greater life satisfaction. We can start by taking time to slow down and reflect to see all of the beauty and awe around us. Practice being childlike by bringing an open mind and a sense of wonder into our lives and the lives of others. Go for “awe walks” in your yard, a park, a trail, or anywhere in nature. We may also want to change the news channel to cooking or fishing. Better yet, shut off the TV, put down our phone, and play the music that first inspired us. Stop over scheduling ~ no racing from one deadline to the next. And recall experiences where we felt a sense of wonder and then carefully tune into how we felt in our bodies and minds. Enjoy a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us this season!

It's Healthy to Create!

Time to try Junk Journaling!

This creative outlet can be a wonderful therapeutic tool!

This creative form of journaling involves a variety of recycled, found materials which are used to build unique and eclectic keepsakes. It is a smooth blend of craft ideas for relaxation, similar to old-fashioned decoupage and modern day scrapbooking. “Junk” only refers to the random, everyday items you may other wise throw out. Things like, ticket stubs, book pages, packaging materials, leaves, silk flowers, magazine clippings, fabric from old clothes, gems, glitter, jewels, etc… Then combine these items with photos, watercolor, sketches, doodles, poems, and any other element that suites your fancy! Soon you will have a visually and texturally rich and artist 3D creation. The creative freedom and experimentation this offers, along with the focus on unconventional self-expression, storytelling, and memory exploring can leave you feeling relaxed and accomplished. Items needed: Glue, Journal or thick blank pages, and anything you can imagine! Enjoy the conversations this will start!

Clinical Massage & TMJ Pain

I am here to help!

Gina Toce
LMT, Clinical Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, Certified IET Master Instructor

Headaches? Jaw pain? Clenching?
Does any of that sound like a day in your life?

As an extension of my Clinical Massage training, this month, I was certified to treat TMJ disorders. An interesting thing about TMJ pain, most of us associate TMJ pain with pain in our jaw area. While that is true for some folks, most will have pain appear in different places in the body. Pain related to TMJ disorders can appear in the neck, the shoulders, as headaches, and it could even appear as pain in your hips or pelvis. (Who knew?) The body is a remarkable structure and that song we learned as children (the hip bone is connected to the thigh bone…) is true, the body is connected in a very intricate, fascinating way. Injury or Trauma in one part of the body can show up as pain in a seemingly unexpected and unrelated place in your body.

With Clinical Massage, I use a blend of several techniques designed to identify the source of your pain, whatever pain you are feeling, whatever label it has or doesn’t have, and then help to decrease it. Every body is different ~ because of that, each session is different. Your body and the pain patterns that you are experiencing will guide me and where I work. These sessions may not feel like a “traditional massage”, but they are effective.

My overall goal is to increase your well being. Let me help you out of pain.
